Getting Edwards County Court Records
The Edwards County District Clerk keeps 452nd Judicial District Court felony, district civil, family, juvenile, and child-protection records. The Edwards County Clerk keeps constitutional County Court files, including county misdemeanors, probate, and county civil matters. Justice of the Peace and Rocksprings Municipal Court clerks maintain their own lower-court files. Choose the custodian before sending a request. The county presents County Clerk and District Clerk work through one elected local office, but their statutory records remain distinct.
All documented channels should be considered. Search re:SearchTX for participating case details, filings, hearings, and documents. Use GovRec for the configured Edwards JP records. Ask by phone whether the item is available by email, portal, mail, fax, or in person. A written request is the most reliable fallback because Edwards County publishes no standard case-record request form or full delivery matrix.
- Identify the court, case type, cause number, and exact filing or order.
- Check the suitable online case system for an index or available document.
- Contact the responsible clerk at the published phone number before sending payment.
- Submit a focused written request with filed or signed date, format, and delivery choice.
- State whether a plain or certified copy is needed, then request the current itemized fee and completion estimate.
Two Edwards County Clerk Functions
One person holds both jobs here. Olga Lydia Reyes is listed as both County Clerk and District Clerk. The shared office sits at 101 East Main, PO Box 184, Rocksprings, TX 78880. Call 830-683-2235 or fax 830-683-5376. Two emails float around: clerk@swtexas.net appears on clerk pages. The county contact page lists Olga.reyes@co.edwards.tx.us. Check which one the office prefers before you send a record request. Name the right court in your wording. A district case belongs to the 452nd District Court. Probate and county misdemeanors go through the constitutional County Court. The JP office sits at 100 West Main. It takes its own cases at 830-683-5187 or jp@co.edwards.tx.us. A Rocksprings municipal file belongs at City Hall, not with the District Clerk. Get the court right up front. That keeps your request from landing in the wrong file system.
Court Record Types
The docket is one layer, not the whole thing. It works as a chronological register of filings and events. It may carry enough data to identify a case. The full Edwards County court record holds the actual papers behind those entries. Finding a case header online is no promise of access. Every document may not be viewable or downloadable.
- Docket sheets and case registers with dated entries.
- Pleadings, petitions, answers, motions, and service returns.
- Signed orders, judgments, dismissals, and disposition records.
- Hearing notices, scheduling material, and filed exhibits when public.
- Transcripts, audio, or video handled through the court reporter or court process.
- Payment and accounting entries when the court's system makes them available.
The county calendar lists events. It does not store documents. Child Protection Dockets offer selected dates and PDFs rather than the complete family file. eFileTexas takes filing envelopes from authorized users, so it is not a public Edwards County court record search.
Write a Precise Edwards County Request
Edwards County publishes no public request form. Your request has to do the routing work itself. Spell out the court and county, plus the cause number if you have it. Add the case style, the record type, and the exact document title. Include the filed or signed date that matters. Say whether you want paper or electronic copies. Add a return address or email, ask for current cost and turnaround, and mention certification up front if you need it. Leave out sensitive data the clerk does not need. Dates of birth, driver-license numbers, child names, victim information, medical details, and financial account numbers create privacy risk. Some are already protected. If a record is old or absent online, ask a question. Does it live in an archived paper file? Edwards County official pages post no public-terminal policy, archive index, bulk-download tool, or scan repository.
Useful request line: Ask the clerk to confirm the exact product, certification level, available delivery method, current itemized charge, and expected completion date before payment.
Inside an Edwards County Court Record
What sits inside a file depends on the court and the type of case. Treat the docket as an index. When the legal text of an order or filing matters, request the real thing. A status word by itself may not say why a case was dismissed, what a judgment ordered, or how far a restriction reaches.
| Case Header | Court, county, cause number, case type, filing date, status, case style, and assigned judge when available. |
|---|---|
| Party and Role | Plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, State, interested person, or counsel information as lawfully displayed. |
| Docket Entry | Sequence or date, filing or event description, filer, clerk note, and document link when accessible. |
| Hearing | Date, time, setting type, location or method, judge, notice, outcome, or continuance. |
| Filed Document | Pleading, motion, order, judgment, return, exhibit, notice, or a restriction indicator. |
| Financial Entry | Costs, fines, payment, balance, restitution, or judgment data when maintained and public. |
Edwards County Docket Versus Document
A search hit is not a copy. re:SearchTX may list a case, a hearing, a filing name, and a document-access indicator, yet the document itself can still call for registration, purchase, attorney status, or retrieval by the clerk. Documents you buy under the statewide order stay available for download only for a limited period. A missing link can also mean local nonintegration or a restriction.
- Docket
- The dated register of court filings and events.
- Filing
- A paper or electronic item submitted in the case.
- Order
- The court's written ruling or direction.
- Certified copy
- A copy bearing the clerk's certification or seal as the official product requires.
- Redaction
- Protected information obscured in an otherwise accessible record.
Need the filing history alone? The docket may be enough. The judge's exact ruling requires the signed order. When a final outcome must be formally proved, ask the clerk which certified judgment or other certified record fits. A portal printout is not a certified copy.
Fees and Certified Copies
Edwards County posts no local fee sheet. It lists nothing for plain copies, certified copies, docket searches, transcripts, or delivery. That gap is worth knowing. The statewide re:SearchTX order sets a documented retrieval price for covered registered users. It does not replace the clerk's local copy charge. Ask for an itemized quote before you send any money.
| Item | Official Amount or Status |
|---|---|
| re:SearchTX document retrieval | $0.10 per page, $1 minimum per document under Misc. Docket 21-9150 |
| Download window | Purchased document available for up to 30 days under the statewide order |
| Edwards County plain copy | Current local fee not located in official sources |
| Edwards County certified copy | Current local certification and copy charge not located |
| Transcript or media | Route to the court reporter or court process; local rate not located |

Rule 12 and Edwards County Files
Not every judicial record sits in a case file. The Texas Judicial Branch open-records policy splits adjudicative case records from administrative judicial records. The split decides where your request goes. Case-file requests belong with the case clerk. Texas Rule 12 covers certain judicial records that are not case records. It asks for a written, reasonably specific request to the custodian. That rule never forces a court to build a new record. It also leaves out anything another law, rule, or order already controls.
The Texas Public Information Act reaches nonadjudicative county administration. Yet it is not a blanket key to a court's case file. Edwards County publishes no specific PIA request form or named officer for this purpose. So sort out what the record is before you ask. A court order goes to the case clerk. An administrative county record may follow a separate process.
Sealed Records and Public Access
Texas court records are presumed open. Still, a statute, a court rule, or an order in a specific case can shut that door. Juvenile and child-protection material may be restricted or redacted. So may adoption records, protected contact information, financial account data, and sealed civil filings. Viewing an electronic 452nd proceeding in public does not override a lawful closure.
Key Texas rules:
Rule 12 governs qualifying non-case judicial records and does not replace a request to the case clerk.
Rule 76a governs many civil sealing requests and requires the findings set by the rule.
Texas redaction rules require sensitive data to be removed from specified public filings.
Restricted is not the same as gone. A portal might show a placeholder, skip the document, hide the case category, or post a redacted copy. Ask the Edwards County clerk if a public version exists and what authority governs access. Do not piece together protected details from other filings.
Edwards County Records Beyond Portals
Some record products live outside the main clerk search. For transcript procedure, start with the 452nd court reporter. The clerk handles ordinary case-file copies. The public calendar gives dates and categories, but it does not promise pleadings or orders. The Texas Child Protection Dockets channel is a narrow calendar publication with strict privacy boundaries.
Appellate work takes a different turn. The Fourth Court of Appeals in San Antonio keeps that appellate record. A federal case puts Edwards County in the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division. PACER is the federal docket route. Name the actual court. That keeps a local request from being mistaken for an appellate or federal record search.
